Making An Anemometer

Students created their own anemometers with help from the 8th Grade.
We used paper cups, push pins and sharpened pencils with an eraser to make the anemometers.
An anemometer is an instrument used to measure wind speed and direction. It is usually made of several small cups attached to a vertical shaft. As the wind blows, the cups rotate, making the rod spin.
Anemometers are important tools for meteorologists who study weather patterns.
Wind will catch the cups and rotate them, the rotations are counted and wind speed is calculated.
