Celery and Food Coloring Experiment

Students have been learning about the organ systems of plants.

An organ system performs jobs.

Students discovered plants have an organ system to move water from the ground into the cells of plants.

Students cut the bottom of the celery stalks.

The celery stalks were placed in jars filled with colored water.

The next day, students observed the stalks and found the leaves had changed color.

The leaves and stalks changed color after 24 hours as the water was absorbed through the xylem.
